Dr. Elisabeth Leake joined Jennifer Siegel and AGS in a book discussion on Leake’s newest book, “Afghan Crucible: The Soviet Invasion and the Making of Modern Afghanistan“. The book explores the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, but also examined local, national, regional, and international imperatives and the interlinked histories of anti-colonial modernity, postcolonial statehood, the shifting norms of international relations, as well as the Cold War. These events and perspectives allow for Leake to lay the groundwork in her book to explain present day Afghanistan.
