Maj. Gen. William J. Walker (Ret.) served as the 38th Sergeant at Arms of the U.S. House of Representatives during the 117th Congress, sworn in on April 26, 2021. An elected officer, the Sergeant at Arms is the chief law enforcement, security, and protocol officer of the House of Representatives. Prior to his appointment as Sergeant at Arms, he served as the 23rd Commanding General of the District of Columbia National Guard where he led the National Guard civil support to the U.S. Capitol Police on January 6, 2021. The Honorable William J. Walker now serves as Vice President and Corporate Security Director at Allied Universal.
