Stay Engaged

The opportunities to engage with AGS do not end at graduation.

Below are some of the many ways you can stay involved in the program.

Stay in Touch

There are plenty of ways you can stay in contact with AGS:

Mentorship Program

The AGS Alumni-Student Mentorship Program gives AGS students the chance to receive advice and guidance from AGS graduates who share their interests and career aspirations. Students are paired with alums based on shared interests and level of availability and can meet over Zoom whenever it is most convenient for both sides. No significant time commitment is required from either the student or alum! Mentor-student meetings can be as frequent or infrequent as either person desires.

Alums will serve as a resource for students to learn about all things post-college: general career advice, interview/networking tips, how to apply your AGS experience in the real world, “things I wish I had known when I graduated”, and the like. Students receive useful advice and inspiration from professionals who used to be in AGS and now work in the spaces they are interested in.

Garden Party

Every summer, John Hillen and AGS host a Garden Party in Oakton, Virginia, for alumni and friends of the program. The event is a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with old friends and form new memories.

Check back in the spring for more details about this summer's garden party.

Staff Rides

AGS offers a variety of staff rides throughout the school year. These trips present an opportunity for AGSers old and new to immerse themselves in the intricacies of a historical conflict and place themselves in the shoes of those who experienced it.

We encourage alumni to join us for these active learning opportunities. More information about staff rides (including recaps of past trips) can be found here.

Young Alumni Career Panel

The event gives recent AGS grads the chance to reconnect with undergraduates and discuss how their experience in the program has influenced their career trajectories after Duke.

This year's panel featured Isabel Ivanescu, Jimmy Toscano, and Sebastian Borda.
